Week 3: A Day Without Water
A Day Without Water – 7th July 2025 – Sunny
Today I woke up from my dream. I went to the bathroom as usual to wash my face and brush my teeth. Just when I opened the tap to get some water, there was no water. I tried flushing the toilet — also no water. I realized there’s no water for today. Well, now flushing the toilet will need to use the water from the water bucket (timba). There’s only a little water left in the water bucket, so I need to use it wisely. I wanted to brew a coffee but realized the filtered water was also cut off. What a pain in the ass. So I decided to go out and head to the supermarket to buy some mineral water.
When I reached the supermarket, I saw a lot of people taking big bottles of mineral water from the store. I realized I needed to be quick before all the water got swept up by other people. I quickly ran inside and straight to the mineral water area. Sadly, there was no mineral water left. I was left thirsty and dehydrated at that point. I decided to go to another supermarket. But there was still no water left. Everyone had bought up all the mineral water bottles. I went to the toilet to check if maybe there was still pipe water that could hydrate my throat, but the toilet also didn’t have any water supply. Poop smell filled the whole toilet because there was no water to flush it away. I literally ran out immediately after checking the tap.
I was damn pissed off and decided to grab a drink at Starbucks. When I reached Starbucks, the store was closed for the day. I saw a notice saying that due to no water supply, Starbucks would be closed today. I quickly checked other drink stores near me that were still open that day, but a lot of F&B stores were all closed, including McD, KFC, and even the Nasi Lemak Burung Hantu near my house. I was damn thirsty at that point, and my throat felt like it was in a desert.
I swear to God, I needed to get some water, otherwise I might faint from dehydration. I went to knock on my neighbour’s door, asking if he could maybe give me some of his water — just a cup would be enough. Luckily, he was willing to share his filtered water with me. His house still had lots of water because his water tank was still full, and he had a lot of water bottles filled with mineral water because he was planning for a party next week. Thank God, he saved me. I really appreciated him sharing his water with me. I went back home and brought some of the durian I bought to give to him as a gift of appreciation. I also reminded him not to eat it today, as there’s no water to clean his mouth. He can eat it when the water is restored.
I then checked the news and realized the government stated there’s a bacteria disease spreading through the water, so they were cutting off the water for a day. They suggested using other alternatives to replace water, such as milk or fruit juice. Coconut water is also a viable option. I quickly went to a fruit store near me and bought some oranges and coconuts. This will save me from dehydration for the rest of the day.
In conclusion, I really should appreciate my country for providing clean water and filtered water to all citizens. I’ve taken clean water for granted. Next time, I will fill up enough water in case today’s event happens again. I also wish that clean water will be supplied to all around the world to prevent today’s disastrous event from happening.
